Education is the best gift to a child
The project is to rebuild a Kindergarten to educate children ages 3 through 5 to provide access to early education for children to learn essential social, emotional, and study skills that they will use throughout their lifetime. The Kindergarten was destroyed by Hurricane Matthew a few years ago, and you donation will rebuild the school, provide school supplies, and pay the teachers’ salaries for two years. In other words, you will help us provide a child-friendly education in a safe facility where the human dignity of the child is fully respected. Please make a tax-deductible donation so that we can give these children a brighter future. Education of children between ages 4 and 6, particularly low-income children, is paramount to their cognitive development. Reunion Sportive recognizes that academic success of these children in later years depends heavily upon their kindergarten readiness. The first few years of education and preparedness are the most crucial to establishing a solid foundation from which children can adapt to school systems and learn successfully. During this period, children develop primary skills that form the foundations of reading, counting, and social interaction. This project will improve the chances of these poor children to succeed in school and in life by providing them with a comprehensive early childhood education in a safe environment. Founded in 2010, Reunion Sportive d’Haiti is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Maryland, dedicated to the well-being of children. Its mission is to build skills, characters, and communities through sports and education, and to promote the well-being of disadvantaged children to reach their full potential in society. Since its creation, Reunion Sportive has built sanitation facilities, clean water programs, and primary schools in impoverished communities in Haiti. Each summer, for 10 years, Reunion Sportive organizes Summer Sports, Feeding, and Reading Camps designed to assist in the holistic development of children, aid them academically, and reinforce their life skills. Through these social programs, Reunion Sportive has served 500,000 hot meals a year, and distributed over 800,000 pieces of sports equipment, thousands of educational materials, and 15,000 solar lamps to schoolchildren living in villages that have no electricity. As of today, more than 19,000 at-risk youths and vulnerable children have benefited directly from our comprehensive social programs. Why does your organization needs urgent donations?
In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew, a category 4 storm, hit the village of Roche-Jabouin, Haiti, and destroyed its only Kindergarten. Since the hurricane, the children have no access to adequate facility for their early education. The Kindergarten classes are taking place under a makeshift house that is unsafe and unsuitable for educating children. When it rains, the floor of this makeshift house is covered with water, resulting in cancellation of classes. The Kindergartners are sent homes, forcing them to lose several weeks of schooling. The children have no access to a library, and most often, there is no book at home to read. This explains why the literacy rate for children in the village is poor, which is exacerbated by the extreme poverty and the lack of socio-economic development activities.
