Puerto Rico Earthquake Relief Fund
Cause Number #33200
SOS NOW! A strong 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the southwest part of Puerto Rico followed by 1,200 more on a lower scale. Every day there are few. PR Rises is providing first aid supplies. Also, workshops to communities offering the necessary tools for better execution and decisions made when facing a disaster. Currently, there are more than 20,000 refugees. People are sleeping on the streets including elders and infants. Natural disasters do not wait, do not warn we need to be ready.
There was not a strategic plan of how to face this type of emergency established. Organizations like ours are the ones taking action on the street providing assistance. After Hurricane Maria, Puerto Ricos’ infrastructure is extremely weak to stand any natural disaster. It is expected that this situation will continue and escalated in the next hours. Fatalities were reported and 35,000 people are in shelters.
By providing food, water, first aid supplies, and prevention education we are looking forward to minimizing the impact of a disaster. Our community camp will also provide a place where families can spend the night without having to sleep on the streets, unsafe.
Shelter to families that lose their home. Food and drinking water accessibility to communities. Prevention education to communities creating awareness and offering needed tools to face the disaster.
